MILES REID

Miles played a couple of games last year after coming back from injury and he looked really good. He’s a strong, powerful ball carrier and a really good player. This year Miles got a full pre-season behind him and I’m really looking forward to seeing him go - I think he’ll be a quality player.

He's is technically very good – he’s young, but he’s a strong boy. He puts in some really good hits and carries well.

Miles in conjunction with Josh (Bayliss) is a great six, seven combination or seven, eight combination. Those two will work really well together and complement each other. It’s a bit like Dan Lydiate and Sam Warburton for Wales – Miles puts the hits in and opens up for Josh. As a partnership, you’ll hopefully see those two building.

It’s great in these competitions to blood these boys and give them some experience because they could go from not playing for a couple of weeks to starting in a big (Gallagher) Premiership game. It’s important they’re all up to speed and confident to step up.

JOSH BAYLISS

Josh is a very mature guy for his age, but he’s gained a lot of experience captaining the United side. That’s been really good because it’s empowered him and he’s thrived in that environment. He’s a natural leader and speaks really well – he was probably a bit shy last year, but this year Josh speaks up a lot more and all the boys listen to what he has to say. That’s great to see that confidence growing coming through.

Miles and Josh have got someone like Flo (Francois Louw) who’s really good at sharing his experience to the younger boys. You forget someone like Tommy Ellis who is still a young guy but he’s cemented his place in the team now. It’s really good to have the likes of Josh and Miles now pushing them on.

RUARIDH McCONNOCHIE

Coming from a Sevens background, he hasn’t played 15s for quite a while, but he’s fit in really well and looked really sharp in training. Ruaridh’s quite a slight guy, but he runs really hard and good lines, skills which he’s got from the Sevens circuit.

Hopefully we can get him the ball and give him some space and sit back and watch him go. That would be the dream – first phase line-out and watch Ruaridh go into the corner. We can just wait on the halfway line and wait for kick-off – he’d be the forwards’ best friend!
