The wing has been a standout performer ever since joining the Blue, Black and White from England Sevens, earning the Breakthrough Player of the Season award in his debut campaign.

A real fans’ favourite, the 26-year-old has scored some fantastic tries – one of which, against Bristol Bears at Ashton Gate, won Try of the Season – and can create special moments with ball in hand.

His teammates recognised his effort for the side too, voting him as their Player of the Season.

Alongside ‘Horse’, there have been several homegrown players who have caught the eye, providing an insight into what next season and beyond could look like for Bath Rugby.

Academy duo Max Ojomoh and Ewan Richards have impressed hugely in their first full year of senior rugby. Ojomoh was awarded the Academy Player of the Season while Richards collected the Breakthrough Player award.

Elsewhere, longstanding wing Semesa Rokoduguni was crowned Best Back while Josh McNally earned the Best Forward accolade for a second consecutive season.

TRY OF THE SEASON – Will Muir’s second try v BRISTOL BEAR (A)

Bath Rugby has scored many sensational, well-worked tries this season but Will Muir’s beautiful second against Bristol Bears at Ashton Gate sealed the 2021/22 Try of the Season.

Ever since he arrived at the club he has proved what a fantastic finisher he is, but he needed a bit of magic from two of the Blue, Black and White’s young guns to help him cross the whitewash.

First, Orlando Bailey’s creative side-footed banana kick found space in the backfield for Muir to run on to and gather close to the touchline. Sliding on his knees, he fed Max Ojomoh inside who carried on a couple of yards before flicking up to Muir, now back on his feet, and the 26-year-old evaded two tackles to dive over.

ACADEMY PLAYER OF THE SEASON - MAX OJOMOH

It has been a fantastic breakthrough season for Max Ojomoh who has enjoyed a lot of senior rugby.

He was the first to reach over 1,000 minutes played in Blue, Black and White this term and has shown throughout the campaign what it means to don the colours of his hometown club.

Dangerous in attack and always carrying a smile on his face, Ojomoh has developed significantly at inside centre and has proved a key player in the midfield alongside Jonathan Joseph and Max Clark.

His form has seen him earn a new senior contract at the Rec with fans set to enjoy his performances for years to come.

Director of Rugby Stuart Hooper said:

“Max has been a standout player for us this season. He has developed tremendously as a professional and now is able to show his true quality on the field.

“He has applied himself so well to learning what it takes to excel at this level. It is huge credit to him that he has stood up and delivered outstanding performances at 12 but also in the unfamiliar position of 10.

“We look forward to seeing Max going on and achieving great things in the Blue, Black and White.”

BREAKTHROUGH PLAYER OF THE SEASON - EWAN RICHARDS

There aren’t many players Ewan Richards’ age who can excel in the second row like he has this season.

The second youngest lock to start for the club following his full debut at Leicester Tigers, the 20-year-old has shown real maturity in his performances, offering excellent go-forward and a stern attitude in defence.

With raw pace and a determination to succeed for the club he loves, Richards will grow into an even more important part of the forward pack as his career develops.

Hooper said: “Ewan is a player who we have been excited about for some time and this season he has really been able to demonstrate his quality to everyone.

“He works incredibly hard for his teammates, is always willing to do the unseen work and has been a huge positive on our team this season.

“To play the amount of Premiership games he has alongside England Under-20s this season is a huge credit to him.”

BEST FORWARD - JOSH MCNALLY

Josh McNally has once again been a consistent performer for the Blue, Black and White.

Through the tough times this season, the lock has continued to set an exemplary example to his teammates, especially the younger players, through his discipline, work rate and attitude.

Strong defensively and accurate at the set-piece, McNally’s consistency and leadership make him an integral part of the pack.

“Josh has been a huge part of our forward pack this season,” Hooper said.

“His experience combined with his leadership qualities make him our stand out forward this season. He is always working to push the team on, to improve everyone around him and himself.

“His impact in the loose is clear to see in his carries and dominant tackles but so much of his work is done in the tight. He is a true warrior and will continue to thrive in the Blue, Black and White.”

BEST BACK - SEMESA ROKODUGUNI

Rolling back the years, Semesa Rokoduguni has had an outstanding season in Blue, Black and White.

Forever dangerous with ball in hand, gliding past defenders, the England international has showcased his superb finishing ability, taking him to over 70 tries for the club, whilst surpassing over 190 appearances.

He has been a leader and a role model for the young players at the club whilst also proving a solid competitor in defence.

“Semesa has been outstanding,” Hooper said.

“He is consistently impressive both in attack and defence and is a leader for the players… someone they look up to.

“Whether it has been finishing tries, catching high balls or being the last line of defence Rocco has been exceptional. A club legend and our Back of the Season.”

SUPPORTERS' PLAYER OF THE YEAR & PLAYERS' PLAYER OF THE YEAR - WILL MUIR

Since joining Bath Rugby, Will Muir has taken his game to a new level whilst continuing to show off his deadly try-scoring ability.

A fierce competitor, the wing may have scored tries aplenty but his strength of beating players on the outside and by fending has been excellent to see while he has also provided solidity in defence from the wide channel.

Affectionately known as Horse, supporters have taken to the 26-year-old for his talent and determination to do well in Blue, Black and White and his teammates have loved sharing the pitch with him too.

Head Coach Neal Hatley said: “Will’s transition from Sevens to the professional XVs has been incredible.

“On top of being one of the most popular and hardworking players in our squad, he is a natural finisher with great footwork and speed, but he has worked incredibly hard to develop every facet of his game which has been evident for everyone to see.

“He has all the attributes to reach the highest level and we are excited to see where he will take his game over the years to come.”
