The Olympic silver medallist hasn’t looked back scoring six tries and winning Best Back, Most Improved Player and Supporters’ Player of the Year at the Bath Rugby Annual Awards Evening last week.

Prior to this season, McConnochie’s last appearance in the full format of the game came in 2015 and the winger readily admits that he has exceeded his own expectations.

“I didn’t think I’d get half as many starts as I have so I’ve just tried to enjoy it and make the most out of every time I’ve pulled on the Bath jersey,” McConnochie said.

“I missed a lot of the pre-season that we had last year and I just wanted to learn a lot. If I had managed to get any first team appearances, that would have been a bonus. I’m still looking forward to this pre-season and hope I can take my game to the next level.”

The Club will bid farewell to a number of coaching and playing setup and McConnochie is determined to send them off on a high as Bath travel to Leicester for the final game of the season.

“It’s massive – it’s the end of the road for a lot of the players and management, but it’s one more game that we want to win. That’s the first thoughts in our mind, we want to go to Welford Road and get a result. If we put the right performance down, the result should take care of itself.”

With just eight points separating ninth from fifth in table, there is plenty to play for as Bath look to secure Heineken Champions Cup rugby next season. However, McConnochie is well aware of the threats posed in the Leicester ranks and what it will take to secure a top six finish.

“It’s (Heineken Champions Cup) the competition you want to be in and that’s what you fight for. First job is to get the result, but it’s important that we’re not worrying about any of the teams around us.

“They (Leicester) haven’t had the season they would have wanted. However, they’ve got some massive threats with George Ford at 10, Jonny May and (Telusa) Veainu coming back, so it will be a really big challenge for us, but something we’re up to the test for.”
