Both fielding full strength teams littered with international level talent, Bath Rugby headed to Franklin's Gardens to take on Northampton Saints in Round 4 of the Premiership Rugby Cup. In a double debut for Bath Rugby, new signing Thomas du Toit started at tighthead and Abdul-Khalik Akenzua Al-Kareem came off the bench. Starting strong, Bath Rugby's tries came thick and fast through Tom Dunn, Ted Hill and Max Ojomoh within the opening 20 minutes. In a show of the pack's strength, the hits and the tackles could be heard from the stands, with Beno Obano and Thomas du Toit proving to be a formidable prop pairing. Earning a bonus point through Tom de Glanville, and with Sam Underhill scoring right on the half-time mark, Bath Rugby headed into half-time sitting 19-35 ahead. Regrouping and turning their game around in the second half, Saints came out firing to score 24 points to Bath Rugby's seven, seeing wing Tommy Freeman score a hattrick. In keeping their scoreboard ticking over, Northampton were able to edge their way in front of Bath by just one point finishing the game 43-42.
