The Blue, Black and Whites scored five tries against the stubborn Italian outfit to set up a quarter-final clash with fellow Gallagher Premiership side London Irish.

“The overriding is we’re happy, we won and we’ve got another chance of silverware,” Clark said.

“It wasn’t perfect, it was far from pretty and I think we’ll call it one of the ugly wins but at the same time, it’s knockout rugby and we’re on to the next stage which is the main thing.

“We said beforehand this was a tough place to come; not many people come to Zebre and do well.

"We said we had to come out the blocks quickly and we didn’t, but we gathered ourselves under the posts and said the game plan was still the same, stick with it, tighten things up a bit and have a bit more structure.

“Once we did we found the weaknesses in their side, pressed on them until we got back into the game and from there we built on that.”
