Charlie Ewels earned his first minutes for over 300 days, starting for the Blue Bulls in the Currie Cup against the Golden Lions.

The second row, who has spent the season sidelined due to a knee injury sustained on international duty in the summer of 2022, played 68 minutes on debut in their 30-19 win, coming through unscathed.

In National League action, Ewan Richards and Jordan Venter both scored as Taunton Titans saw off Leeds Tykes by 59 points to 28 at home.

Centre Venter crossed for his side’s second try while blindside flanker Richards contributed with a finish midway through the first half of the comfortable victory.

Ciaran Donoghue was back at full-back for Dings Crusaders who defeated Luctonians 34-20 on the road. The young utility back has now made 17 appearances in National League 1 for Dings.

In the Championship, Darren Atkins continued in the 15 shirt for Richmond who were comprehensively beaten by London Scottish and Murdoch Lock made his fourth appearance for Ampthill as they lost to Bedford Blues.

Elsewhere, Harvey Cuckson and Ieuan Davies were involved in England Under-19s’ 60-14 win over Wales Under-19s.
