The Club hosted 28 teams, with the day consisting of an Under 8s Tag Rugby tournament in the morning and an U12 Dorset & Wiltshire RFU tournament taking place in the afternoon.

Bath Rugby’s Community Engagement Manager, Tom Giles said: “This is such a special day for us, as we’re able to provide this exclusive opportunity at the home of Bath Rugby to over 400 local children throughout the day.

“It’s been a pleasure to work with Wooden Spoon, Dorset & Wilts RFU as well as all teams on this event and we hope to make this a regular occasion moving forward.

“We hope that opportunities like this will help inspire these incredibly lucky kids to stay in the game and continue to progress.”

Dorset & Wiltshire RFU Chair of Young Player Development, Nick Elbourne said, “Dorset & Wilts RFU are massively grateful to Bath Rugby for providing this opportunity. Young players keep coming to Rugby for a lot of reasons, but it’s experiences like this that inspire the next generation. Win or lose they will not forget the experience they’ve had and everyone will be dreaming that one day they will be back.

Teams from Trowbridge, Bradford-On-Avon, Marlborough, Dorchester, Melksham, Warminster, Chippenham, Wimborne, Devizes, Wootten Basset, North Dorset and many more attended on the day, consisting of around 400 players. Bath Rugby will be making these events a regular occurrence, which will provide an increase in the amount of opportunities for those at the grassroots level of the game.

Wooden Spoon’s chair of Dorset and Wiltshire, Justin Cliff said: “We were thrilled to be the charity partner of the Bath Rugby Community Day.

“Bath Rugby have been very generous in allowing us to partner with them in the Celebration U8 Tag Rugby morning. We’re delighted to offer this experience to 140 children, the chance to play on the very pitch they will have seen their heroes play on.

“It is also important we pass on our thanks to Bath Rugby Community team along with Dorset & Wilts RFU, who helped us raise over £1000 throughout the day in bucket collections.”

Wooden Spoon are the Children’s Charity of Rugby who raise money to support disabled and disadvantaged children in the region. Money raised will help support projects to help some of the 4.25 million children who live in poverty and nearly one million disabled children in the UK.
