The beer is cooling, and the sausage meat seasoned so all that’s left for you to do is dust off your lederhosen.

As part of the new ‘Friday Night Club’, we will be delivering unique, themed experiences in the Swift Half ahead of our Friday fixtures. These will take place throughout the season with a variety of timely themes to coincide with any Friday matches at the Rec.

Our first Friday game (and currently the only Friday fixture this side of Christmas) sees us face Exeter Chiefs in the Gallagher Premiership (kick-off 19:45) and we will be bringing the spirit of Germany to you with beer, bratwurst and of course, us Bath Rugby.

The first Oktoberfest was held in 1810 in Munich in honour of the Bavarian Crown Prince Ludwig’s marriage to Princess Therese von Sachsen-Hildburghausen and the festivities have continued for over 200 years in not only Germany, but all around the world.

To help you enjoy the full flavour of our Oktoberfest themed ‘Friday Night Club’ at the Rec we will be bringing you all of this plus much, much more…

Expect foot stomping, table bashing and hearty singing galore.

And, if you need to swat up on your German, here are the top 10 words you’ll need to enjoy an authentic Okoberfest:

BIERZELT - A beer tent

BIERKRUG - A beer mug/stein, which is an essential thing to have at Oktoberfest.

BREZEL - German for pretzel. In Bavaria also called Brezn.

DIRNDL - A traditional dress for women. It consists of a bodice, blouse, skirt and apron.

HENDL - Bavarian for (roast) chicken. Usually eaten with a Brezn and a Maß of beer.

KELLNER // KELLNERIN - German for waiter and waitress respectively.

LEDERHOSE - Leather trousers, particularly popular in Bavaria. These are an essential part of the men’s traditional dress, usually worn together with a white shirt, knee-length socks, and special shoes.

MAß - A Maß is a beer jug, either made out of glass or stoneware, which contains exactly 1 litre of beer. All you have to do is order a Maß.

PROST - One of the most important Oktoberfest words, prost is German for ‘cheers’ (and is useful outside Oktoberfest contexts, as well!).

WEIßWURST - Literally ‘white sausage’. A traditional Bavarian sausage made from finely minced veal and pork bacon, together with spices and herbs.

ABOUT FRIDAY NIGHT GAMES

We continue to work closely with Premiership Rugby to ensure that we do not bear an unfair proportion of non-Saturday fixtures compared to other clubs.

When the fixtures are moved, we will work with Premiership Rugby and ECPR to ensure they move one in three games to a Sunday, two in three games to a Friday (driven by the impact of our games on our near neighbours, who are strongly adverse to Sunday games)

We will work with Premiership Rugby to try to limit the ‘bunching’ of moved fixtures. Our stated and clear preference for games is Saturday afternoons – in a typical season an average of six games will be moved from Saturdays, which means that Friday fixtures will form part of our rugby calander.

Night games bring a unique atmosphere and we believe there is an opportunity to celebrate this and so we warmly welcome you to The Friday Night Club. The rugby will not change but your experience before the game will as the Swift Half transforms into brilliantly themed bar.
