Bath Rugby 26-18 Exeter Chiefs, April 2011

Bath got the better of West Country rivals Exeter 26-18 at the Rec to boost their hopes of qualifying for next season's Heineken Cup.

Matt Banahan was the star as he scored the opening try for the hosts and also laid on another for Matt Carraro, although the Chiefs pushed their neighbours all the way.

Luke Arscott had crossed to put Chiefs into an 8-6 lead before Banahan’s contributions. Butch James kicked a goal to make it 21-8 and although Gareth Steenson followed suit, Michael Claassens saw the game out before Matt Jess’ late consolation.

Bath Rugby 19-17 Exeter Chiefs, October 2015

George Ford kicked 14 points to inspire Bath to a narrow victory over Exeter Chiefs in their Premiership opener.

Exeter led 11-10 at the break through an early try from debutant James Short and two Gareth Steenson penalties.

Bath responded with a try from Stuart Hooper, which Ford converted, while also sending over a penalty.

Ford and Steenson traded two penalties after the break, but it was Bath fly-half who won it with a late kick.

Bath Rugby 13-10 Exeter Chiefs, October 2019

Bath edged out Exeter with a 13-10 victory on a soggy night at The Rec.

Exeter’s opener was a matter of persistence and after almost ten minutes of pressure, Bath’s defence eventually relented and allowed Jonny Hill to power over from close range.

Joe Simmonds added the extras to put the visitors four points to the good following Rhys Priestland’s early penalty but a further three-pointer from the Exeter fly-half saw that lead increased to seven.

However, the Chiefs saw their lead disappear completely just before the break as Tom Dunn drove over the line after a well-timed tap and go from Zach Mercer and Priestland landed the conversion.

Another penalty from the Bath fly-half moved the hosts into the lead and Alex Cuthbert should have scored after running the length of the pitch, only for Mercer to arrive at the very last second to tackle him into touch.

Bath ended the contest in admirable attacking fashion but as soon as the clock ticked into the red it was up to Priestland to boot the ball into the stands and secure the scalp.
