The mechanical engineering student, who then represented Northumbria University, caught the eye of the England Sevens selectors. Will, more commonly known as ‘Horse’ at Farleigh House, made his senior bow in South Africa at the 2017 Assupol International Sevens tournament. The Yorkshire-born flyer never looked back as he became a regular squad member of the Sevens circuit which took him around the globe. His on-field contribution was nationally recognised in 2019 when he was named England Sevens Player of the Year.

Muir’s rugby development took another impressive step in the right direction when he signed for Bath Rugby ahead of the 2020-21 season. Re-joining his England Sevens teammate Ruaridh McConnochie, it is evident that the 24-year-old has a firm grip on the team structures and playing patterns which Neal Hatley and team have put in place.

Alongside Tian Schoeman and Ewan Richards, Muir made his debut at the Rec against Harlequins and put on an impressive inaugural display. Although it had been over 12 months since he last played in a professional game, it certainly wasn’t telling. Despite his comparatively small stature, the winger, who credits both Girvan Dempsey and Ryan Davis as integral to his 15s development, looked particularly composed in the air and when running ball in hand.

A keen garden cricketer, who cites Freddie Flintoff as his sporting hero, Muir will be hoping that his next rugby chapter is the best yet. Knowing his ability to manipulate defenders and capitalise when given the opportunity to run into space, it should excite everyone who supports the Blue, Black and White.
