The progressive new free of charge schools programme was created with an aim of breaking the barriers which lead to female underrepresentation in both engineering and rugby.

TRY Engineering is designed for girls aged between 14 and 18 and has already introduced over 350 pupils to engineering and touch rugby across 10 schools in just three months.

Sarah Evans, a teacher at Bradon Forest School in Wilshire, was full of praise for the way the programme has been delivered by Bath Rugby’s community team in conjunction with the James Dyson Foundation.

“The engineering workshop was very well organised,” she said.

“The girls loved the hands-on experience with the vacuum heads and the rugby was pitched at exactly the correct level. The coaches developed a rapport with the girls and the girls responded with enthusiasm and energy.”

TRY Engineering is exciting, unique and currently available to all secondary schools across Dorset, Somerset and Wiltshire, completely free of charge.

To enable each school’s continuation of this meaningful programme beyond its introduction, each school will be gifted touch rugby equipment and provided with a toolkit of further James Dyson Foundation learning session plans.
