The 32-year-old leaves the sport having contributed immensely in Sevens for England whilst also giving a huge amount to five clubs in 12 years since coming through the Leicester Tigers ranks in 2011.

In the same year, the man affectionately known as ‘Chippy’ debuted for his country in the World Rugby Sevens Series, starting an eight-year journey in the Sevens game.

From Sydney to Hong Kong to Las Vegas, de Carpentier has featured all around the world with the red rose on his chest and earned over 200 caps, winning the RPA England Sevens Player of the Year in 2017 whilst featuring in medal-winning campaigns at the Rugby World Cup Sevens in San Francisco and Gold Coast Commonwealth Games a year later.

His 43 Sevens tournaments coincide with appearances in the Premiership, Champions Cup, Challenge Cup, Championship, LV Cup, A League and British & Irish Cup.

Leicester, Nottingham Rugby, Worcester Warriors and Harlequins were all fortunate to have de Carpentier as part of their squads during his career before he arrived in the West Country at Bath.

In his two seasons with the Blue, Black and White, Chippy made 27 outings on the field and off the field proved a fruitful character and a friend to many.

Everyone at Bath Rugby would like to congratulate him on his successful career in rugby and would like to wish him, his wife Annicka, and his two children Rudi and Ebba, all the very best for what is to come in the future.

On his retirement, De Carpentier said: “They say your journey is shaped by people you meet along the way and I’ve been fortunate enough to play with some absolutely top blokes. I’ve worked with coaches and backroom staff who couldn’t have done more for me.

“There are a lot of highs and lows that go on in rugby and I feel fortunate to have experienced a lot more of the high moments, I feel lucky to have had an amazing career.

“I’ve loved every minute, It has shaped me as a person and I couldn’t have done it without my wife, Annicka, my kids, Rudi and Ebba, and my family supporting me throughout. They’ve been there for me through the good times and the not so good.

“I’ve been fortunate enough to have been around the world and played in some incredible places and with some great players and even better blokes. I’ve made some of the most amazing memories and feel truly lucky to have played the sport I love for so long.”

Bath Head of Rugby Johann van Graan said: “Chippy has been a fantastic ambassador for Bath Rugby and a joy to work with over the past season.

“Ever since meeting him on 11 July last year, he has held himself to the highest standards, setting a superb example on and off the pitch.

“His attitude has been exemplary; we have been really fortunate to have him in our group and it was great to see him come on at Twickenham last Saturday, loving every moment like it was the first game of his career.

“We know he will be a success in life after rugby and we are excited to see what lies ahead for him.”
