The home side were the dominant force in the first half, with Adam Hastings getting the scoreboard ticking over with two early penalties in the opening 12 minutes of play. The sustained pressure finally paid dividends as Will Homer combined with Aled Brew to send the Welshman through for a try on his return to action following an injury layoff. 13-0

Moments before the interval, Bath found themselves over the whitewash again through Levi Douglas. It was the initial break from winger Kristian Phillips, who gave Bath good ball in the Quins’ 22 before the home side edged closer to the try line. It was a powerful drive from Douglas that saw the second rower force his way over the line and extend Bath’s lead.

Bath started the second half in the way they finished the first pressing the Harlequins defence. The task in hand got harder for the visitors, as they were reduced to 14 men with second row John Okafor sent to the sin bin for a high tackle on Hastings after 46 minutes.

The Blue, Black and White made the numerical advantage count as they scored their third try of the evening in spectacular fashion. With Bath encroaching into the Quins’ danger area, Max Clark found Phillips on the right wing with a clever cross field kick. Despite being temporarily halted by Jonas Mikalcius, Phillips managed to get back to his feet and finish a well-worked backline move. 27-0

The closing 15 minutes saw Quins pile on the pressure, with Bath spending large periods camped inside their 22. The visitors were finally rewarded when Mikalcius finished off in the corner following a quick tap penalty. 27-7

However, Bath finished the game with a flourish with a fourth try in front of a vibrant crowd at the Rec. Darren Atkins, who had an excellent evening with ball in hand initiated the attack from halfway, before the ball eventually found its way to captain Guy Mercer, who completed an emphatic win for an impressive United side.
