BATH RUGBY 22-0 EXETER CHIEFS - 6th October 1894

A game that made Bath Rugby history. It was the first ever game to be played at the Rec, and this weekend will mark 124 years on from the inaugural clash. It was Bath Rugby, who came out on top on the day itself with MacTier and Vincent scoring two tries apiece to secure a memorable victory.

It was a close encounter against Exeter at the Rec last season. The Chiefs started the game well, going 10 points up after the first 22 minutes thanks to a penalty from Joe Simmonds and a pick and go try from Jonny Hill. Freddie Burns replied with two penalties to leave his side four points adrift at the half-time interval.

Exeter extended their lead as Sam Simmonds crossed the whitewash in the 48^thminute. However, Bath weren't going down without a fight, as Matt Banahan went over less than five minutes later. A clever cross-field kick was claimed by the winger to reduce the deficit to five points.

Bath’s momentum continued to grow as Paul Grant dotted down after Taulupe Faletau sliced through the Chiefs' defence. Bath led 18-17 going into the final 10 minutes, but late pressure from the visitors was rewarded, as Joe Simmonds closed out the game with a late penalty with six minutes to play.

Bath Rugby 31-14 Exeter Chiefs - 27^thdecember 2014

Exeter were first on the scoreboard, as Dean Mumm sent Matt Jess through from 40 metres out to give the visitors an early seven-point advantage.

Bath hit back moments later with Leroy Houston showing his juggling skills to sent Horacio Agulla over the whitewash. who combined well with Kyle Eastmond to cross the whitewash. A successful conversion from George Ford evened up the scoreboard.

Shortly before half-time, Bath went ahead for the first time in the game. Francois Louw took advantage of a loose Exeter throw at the line-out, before impressive work from Chris Cook put Eastmond in under the posts.

The pendulum kept swinging as Jack Nowell collected Sam Hill's grubber kick in the corner to score.

Dave Attwood then put Bath Rugby back in control, as the second row bundled his way over from a powerful maul. Exeter were then reduced to 14 men, with Mitch Lees shown a yellow card for coming in at the side.

Bath made the man advantage count and closed out the game, with Anthony Watson completing an impressive victory at the Rec.
