The challenge: your story can be just 150 words, and must contain the words ‘Bath Rugby’. The competition will be judged by Club captain Stuart Hooper and Alex Brown, deputy editor of the Bath Chronicle. There will be two winners, one from primary age entrants and another from secondary age entrants. Winners will have their story printed in the Bath Chronicle, and will get the chance to read their story at the Bath Rugby Foundation Awards taking place on Wednesday 6^th July.

The competition sits within the Foundation’s wider work to support the most vulnerable young people in Bath and North East Somerset, using rugby to inspire them to be more confident, and realise their full potential.

The Foundation currently runs an award-winning literacy programme, Stickability, which has reached 2400 children so far. The programme gives students the opportunities and support to develop learning skills and confidence. Delivered through a combination of classroom-based literacy sessions and active tag rugby sport sessions, the programme aims to reinforce five core learning skills: Individual problem-solving; Perseverance and focus; Emotional resilience; Empathy and supporting others; Teamwork and collaboration.

Stuart Hooper, Club captain, said: “The Foundation does incredible work to support young people in our area, and help them to be better learners. 150 Words is another brilliant example of how we can use the excitement around the Club’s 150^th Anniversary to get young people’s brains ticking over and enthused about writing. I’m looking forward to reading all of the entries – the more unusual the better!”

Alex Brown, deputy editor of the Bath Chronicle, said: “Any competition which inspires the next generation of budding writers and journalists is something the Chronicle is more than happy to support. We hope that our readers will share the competition with any young people they know to be in with a chance of winning a ‘money cant buy prize’. Stuart and I will be looking for stories that show originality, and flare.”
