Bath Rugby's continued efforts to find and promote talent through the Academy took another boost with six players signing contracts. Scrum Half Matt Keyte, Fly Half Paul Roberts, Centre Nick Scott, Hooker Ted Stagg, Fly Half Tom Heathcote and Centre Ollie Woodburn all put pen to paper earlier this month.
Matt Keyte made his first team debut against Leicester Tigers in the recent Anglo Welsh cup game. Paul Roberts recently played for England Students in their narrow away defeat to the full Portugal national team. Nick Scott is currently playing for Newbury Blues in National 2 South and Ted Stagg has been a regular member of the United squad over the last two season. Matt, Paul, Nick and Ted who have all signed for one year will all continue to combine their full time training at Bath with study at the University of Bath.
Whilst Fly Half Tom Heathcote will join Bath full time in the summer on a two year contract after completing his studies at Bishops Wordsworth School in Salisbury. He is a product of Salisbury RFC and Dorset & Wilts youth set up, he has already represented England at both U16 & U18 levels. Tom will also combine his full time training at Bath with study at the University of Bath.
Centre Ollie Woodburn will also join Bath full time in the summer after completing his studies at Colston's School in Bristol. He is a product of Keynsham RFC and Somerset youth set up. Ollie will take a gap year and train full time at Bath on a one year deal before he goes to University the following year.
John Palmer Bath Academy Head Coach said "having worked with all six players over a period of time it is nice to see them earning full time contracts. I am delighted that they have committed their future development to Bath Rugby". He thought that all six are outstanding prospects and was looking forward to working with them over the next few years.
