Hastings has impressed throughout the season with some strong performances for Club and country. A defensively strong back rower, Hastings, who studied at Bishop Wordsworth School, has shown a great willingness to develop his game. He is an open side flanker who demonstrates his strengths incredibly well on the field. He converted from centre to the back row at the end of his U16 season and his comfortability with ball in hand and in the wide channels is still clear to see.
Hastings shows great consistency around his training approach and willingness to improve, typified more than anything by how much he has learnt to influence the game with a number seven on his back following his move from the backline just three years ago.
Hastings’ major strengths are based upon his work in the defensive breakdown, where his ability to slow the ball down and win it back has been abundantly clear this season. This will be an area of his game that he continues to develop as he continues his journey with Bath Rugby, looking to learn from the likes of Academy graduates Miles Reid and Josh Bayliss, as well as international open side flankers like Sam Underhill.
