Developing Player Programme [U13 – U16]

The Developing Player Programme (DPP)

The DPP engages players aged 13 – 16 years old and is a development programme which interacts with and complements school, club and county playing programmes, to provide further development opportunities for young players without the conflict of competition.

This programme is nationally managed by the Rugby Football Union (RFU) and delivered locally through a partnership between the RFU, the Regional Academies and Constituent Bodies (in our case, the RFU, Bath Academy and Dorset, Wiltshire and Somerset). Each programme is established within the 14 Regional Academy boundaries.

The Bath DPP catchment area is outlined below:

  • Dorset
  • Wiltshire
  • Part of Somerset (Unitary Authorities of Mendip, South Somerset, Bath and NE Somerset)

The established core objective of the programme at a national level is as follows:

‘To provide a first opportunity to identify those players with greatest potential to enter the pathway towards the professional game and England

The Bath DPP  is therefore a critically important aspect of the player pathway that leads to the Bath Academy Player Development Group.
