Gilbert and Hipkiss sign on for more with Bath Rugby

27 March 2013

Bath Rugby are delighted to announce that both flanker Mat Gilbert and centre Dan Hipkiss have extended their contracts with the Club.

Gilbert, Britain's only deaf professional rugby player, arrived in November and made an instant impact. Far from his rugby being hindered by his hearing, he earned himself a place on the field and performed superbly. So well in fact, that Head Coach Gary Gold did not hesitate when the subject of contracts was raised.

Speaking of his extension, Gilbert said: "Coming to Bath has been a revelation for me. I wanted to test myself in the best environment and I feel that is here. I feel proud to have played for Bath and very excited that I will continue to do so."

Hipkiss, a man with all together more experience, has had a frustrating season so far with injuries. But when fully fit, there is no doubt about what he offers to the squad, bringing both quick feet and pace in attack and a steely edge and expert vision in defence.

Having put pen to paper, Hipkiss said: "I am over the moon to have re-signed here at Bath. I love the Club and the environment, and I could now not see myself being anywhere else. I still feel I have a point to prove, and that this is the place to prove it."

Gary Gold, Bath Head Coach, said: "Mat is a special individual. He is unbelievably committed both to the team and to self-improvement. I feel proud to have him at Bath. And Danny is exactly the sort of professional we want around here. His work ethic is relentless and he takes no prisoners in training."

Take your chance to meet the players this Friday at the Rec in the final open training session of the season. Gates open at 9.30, and all ages are welcome!
