Ellis reflects on Leinster result

17 December 2018

Bath Rugby’s Tom Ellis was frustrated by this weekend’s result against Leinster Rugby, where the Blue, Black and White were defeated by the reigning European Champions in Dublin.

In treacherous conditions in the Irish capital, the hosts showed their clinical edge, outscoring Bath Rugby 42-15. The back-rower gave his thoughts following the game.

“It was frustrating. In parts of the game we were good, we were pleased with elements. However, we let ourselves down. Coming off the back of the previous week, we were relatively confident going into that game. Well done to Leinster, they showed their strength, but we certainly played into their hands.

“They converted their opportunities well but we gave them momentum with some poor reads in defence. As usual, they were clinical with the opportunities they had, they built a score well and early, and in those  conditions you don't want to be chasing the game.”

“It was great to see everyone that made the trip (to Dublin), and it was great to walk around at the end and say thanks to them. To see so many faces was incredibly humbling.”

Bath now have a longer turnaround as they prepare to face Wasps in Coventry for the 10th round of the Gallagher Premiership next weekend. The two sides met earlier in the season as the spoils were split in a 35-35 draw.

“We now have an extra day to build going into Wasps and we intend to use that to convert that draw which we achieved last time, into a win.”
