Bath Rugby’s Will Chudley is under no illusion of the challenge in front of the squad ahead of tomorrow evening’s Gallagher Premiership clash against Sale Sharks.
With just one point separating the two sides in the table, the scrum-half knows that Bath will have to be at their best to come away with the points against a Sale side unbeaten in their last three games at home.
Chudley said: “It’s a very tough place to go and win and not many teams do that. We know the challenge ahead of us - they’re a very physical bunch and very confrontational, so we know we have to stay on script and not get carried away getting involved in things we don’t need to.
“We haven’t won up there for a few years now, so it’s a big challenge for us, but one we’re massively looking forward to.”
Bath go into the game off the back of a narrow defeat against Gloucester at Kingsholm, and Chudley knows that concentration is key to getting a result at the AJ Bell Stadium.
“We had a really good start against Gloucester, so it’s been about reinforcing what we did well in those first 20 minutes and making sure we do that for the full 80 minutes. That’s been the main focus this week because we know the threats that Sale have at the breakdown. It’s about removing them, getting quick ball and playing the game we want to play.”
Chudley admits that this week’s game is vital in terms of where Bath will finish the season and knows that a result against Sale could enhance their play-off hopes.
"We’ve had two weeks of preparation – we know how big of a game this is in terms of the league standings. If the other fixtures fall our way, we could end up being close to that top four, which is our main priority. There’s loads to play for and hopefully we’ll execute our game plan and come back with a nice away win."
