Foundation Festivities

The Bath Rugby Foundation Team, along with Academy member Joe Buckle,  visited  St Johns Hospital today to deliver their annual Christmas hampers to all the residents – it was quite a challenge!  The Foundation team were dressed as elves with red and green tights and Santa Hats with Jimmy Deane, Foundation Manager dressed as a Christmas Fairy wearing a white tutu and wings!!  They visited Combe Park in Weston followed by a visit to all the residents in various houses across the city.  As the team delivered the hampers, they sang carols and greeted everyone with a hearty ‘Merry Christmas.’As part of their Festivities week, they have also visited Dorothy House and tomorrow will be going to the Children’s Christmas Party at the Royal United Hospital. On the 4th December– Premiership Rugby sponsors Aviva and Bath Rugby hosted an Aviva Premiership Rugby transition day with local schoolchildren at Warminster RFC. Read more 

During half time at the Bath Rugby v Sale Sharks match at the Recreation Ground last weekend, four Warminster schools put on a fantastic half time tag display.  The schools New Close Primary, St John’s Primary, Sambourne Primary and Heytesbury Primary all took part in the Aviva Premiership Rugby Schools Programme and put on an exciting display that had the crowd cheering an on their feet. There was also a big surprise for the schools when Bath Rugby asked them all to be the guard of honour for the match, which they all thoroughly enjoyed. The Aviva Premiership Rugby Schools Programme is an initiative aimed at introducing over 36,000 young people to the sport through Tag Rugby.  The scheme is run by Premiership Rugby along with the 12 Aviva Premiership Rugby clubs and is expected to involve 600 primary schools, with 1,200 teachers also receiving training. Nathan Catt and Ben Skirving were invited to the opening of the new vocational learning centre at The Link Special School and Specialist Behaviour Service which has been funded by Bath & North East Somerset Council. Read more 

Many thanks must go to the Disney Store for allowing the Bath Rugby Foundation to ‘Share the Magic’ of Disney.  At Christmas-time Disney donates 12,000 soft toys to local children’s charities in eight countries around Europe. Read more 

Jimmy Deane, Foundation Manager at Bath Rugby made a flying visit to Glastonbury 107.1 FM radio station last week to ‘go live’ and talk about the work that Bath Rugby Club do in and around the wider community. Glastonbury FM is a community radio station and The Foundation are looking to promote more of their work through them as well as with Somer Radio 97.5 FM, serving Norton Radstock and surrounding district of North East Somerset and Frome FM who are also lined up for further newscasts. The Playground to Podium event went really well last Friday.  Caryl Thomas, Bath Rugby's Foundation Inclusion Manager, who was involved with the event which took place  at  Bath University, enjoyed teaching over 60 young people to throw, pass and play a popular game called 'Stuck in the Mud!'    All the young people present had either hearing, visual or physical disabilties and they had a great time taking part in a variety of activities including  fencing, tennis, judo, and athletics. Playground to Podium

On Friday 25th November, Playground to Podium is being held at Bath University where 60 young people with hearing, visual and physical disabilities, aged between 7 and 17 years of age will be having great fun, trying out a variety of sports and at the same time promoting what activities are available in the local area. Sixteen teachers from Warminster Primary schools took part in a hands on teacher training session at Warminster RFC with community coaches from Bath Rugby as part of the Aviva Premiership Rugby Schools Programme  in the hope that core rugby skills will be transferred to the local schools and eventually unearth the next generation of English talent. On Monday 21st November Ben Skirving joined forces with Aviva at the Warminster area schools tag festival held at Warminster RFC to put local kids through their paces as they continue their education up the rugby ladder. Read more
