The Bath Rugby Community coaches were out in force yesterday afternoon coaching tag rugby at both Ditcheat Primary and Upton Noble Primary schools. The tag rugby sessions which are part of the Aviva Premiership Rugby Schools Programme were carried out by Jimmy Deane and Stephen Barber.  The delivery is disciplined but at the same time fun for the kids.  Jimmy organised Tag Bulldogs at Ditcheat and had the boys racing against the girls. Students from Malmesbury School welcomed Bath Rugby player Francois Louw to their school last week.  This was the second visit this year by a South African rugby star from Bath. Francois Louw a full Springbok international, following his emergence as a star at the world cup in New Zealand, recently joined Bath from his native South Africa. This weekend saw Old Redcliffians RFC host an action packed Under 12 and Under 11 grassroots festival, the Land Rover Premiership Rugby Cup. Read more 

Premiership Rugby and MBNA’s ground breaking Tackling Numbers programme has been named the Best Corporate Social Responsibility at a national awards ceremony which was held in London last week. Read more 

Last week ESPN Rugby presenter Pete Richards, Danny Grewcock and Bath Rugby community coaches led a coaching masterclass for over three hundred youngsters new to rugby at Brimsham Green School, Yate. Read more 

The Tackling Numbers programme is now into its fourth week of the programme at Norton St Philip Primary School.  The session was open to parents so that they could see how this innovative maths lesson was being delivered. Read more

On Wednesday 8th February the Bath Rugby Community Team joined forces with Aviva at the Dezives area schools tag festival held at Devizes RFC to put local kids through their paces as they continue their education up the rugby ladder. Read more 

Vicky Heslop was out Tackling Numbers this week at St Michael’s School in Twerton. This six week programme has been re-organised at the school in order to give all the pupils an opportunity to take part, rather than just concentrating on one year group.  Vicky has already delivered the programme to Classes 1 and 2 and today she was with Class 3 which was a large group and a mixture of Years 3 and 4.   Carole Watts of Class 3 said:  “They love it!  It is good to have Vicky come back to us too, as she knows all the children. Vicky Heslop, Bath Rugby Foundation’s Education Manager visited Rode Primary School today and delivered the fourth session of Tackling Numbers, an interactive numeracy programme for young children, developed and delivered by Premiership Rugby in partnership with MBNA. “It is going really very well.  Today the children are looking at different units such as, what is metric, and what is imperial and how to measure with these different properties.”Vicky had the children from Years 3 and 4 measuring their hand spans, their feet and their heights and writing down the whole of the measurements of the class on a special chart.  This was followed by using the students’ height to calculate Danny Grewcock’s hand span by using a graph.
