Bath Rugby Community Team organised a teacher training session on Wednesday 21st March at Wells RFC as part of the MBNA Tackling Numbers Numeracy Programme in an effort to broaden both interest and participation in the game. Read more 

On Friday 8th February the Bath Rugby Community Team were at Marlborough RFC to put children from nine primary schools in the Marlborough area through their paces as they continue their education up the rugby ladder. Read more

Is it Rugby Maths Today??

Every Thursday morning when Year 4 arrive at St Mary’s Primary School in Timsbury for a session of Bath Rugby’s Tackling Numbers, they ask their Class Teacher Hannah Smythe: “Is it Rugby Maths today?”“That’s what they call it,” Hannah says, “they absolutely love it!”When visiting Year 4 at St Mary’s this week, I soon picked up on the enthusiasm for the ‘Tackling Numbers’ way of learning.  Bath Rugby Academy players, Will Spencer and Tom Baldwin, took time out last week to visit Trinity Church Primary School in Radstock and Selwood Academy in Frome. Tina Veater, Editor of Hey Magazine, had run a Bath Rugby competition through four local schools and arranged with the Trinity and Selwood to announce the winners in their school assemblies.  Children from both schools were very excited when the players arrived.  They couldn’t wait to see who had won the competition and who was going to be the mascot for the Bath v Bucharest match. It was still snowy in the playground when Community Coach Jack Howden arrived at St Andrew’s to do a School of Tag lesson for Year 4.  Although some of the younger children were having fun outside sweeping up the snow, it was decided that Jack should hold his lesson in the gym. Read more 

Jack Howden, Bath Rugby Community Coach, visited  St John’s Primary School in Midsomer Norton on Monday 14th January to deliver the second session of Tackling Numbers to a very enthusiastic group of eight year olds!Put together by MBNA and Premiership Rugby, this six week programme has been structured in such a way that it brings fun to the classroom, and helps to motivate and encourage children to enjoy maths.
