Josh McNally ready to take performances up a gear ahead of Tigers trip

21 August 2020

Bath Rugby lock Josh McNally was pleased with the sides’ performance against his former Club, London Irish last weekend and is ready for the side to step up their performance as the Blue, Black and White face off against Leicester Tigers on Saturday (kick-off 16:30, live on BT Sport 3).

He said: "We’re obviously pretty happy with the way we started, there are things that we need to work on from last week that we have been working on this week. It was obviously our first hit out and we couldn’t be happier to be at home and get five points to get restart up and running.

Bath Rugby have beaten Tigers in the last three occasions in all competitions and McNally analysed this weekend’s opposition ahead of the outing in Leicester.

The lock continued: “We know they have a great front five, we’ve been looking at a lot of them this week and how we can attack them in the set piece to tire those guys out. Obviously, their half-backs are going to control the game really well so you notify those guys in the game then we should be good.

“Looking at it, it seems as though there will be a lot of kicking in the game, a lot of territory based, I think there will be a lot of set piece going to be involved.

“We’ve been working hard at that and our set piece was phenomenal last week, so just trying to tweak that up and keep that at the standard that it was. For us as a forward pack we are just trying to keep all of those standards that we have been setting as high as possible and take that into the weekend.”

Bath Rugby had the better of their East Midland rivals last time out at the Rec as the Blue, Black and White edged out the Tigers in a 13-10 victory, and McNally remains confident that the side can retain their form this time out.

He added: “We are massively confident; I think as a first outing last Saturday we couldn’t have asked for anything more from the boys and I think there is even more to come. As a set piece, we are just going to keep battling hard and show more of the same this week.

“We just playing Rugby in the right areas, we don’t want to get bored of doing the right things, I think sometimes we lost that on the weekend against Irish, we tried to do things we didn’t need to do which cost us points in the end.

“We have got a great game plan and we don’t want to get bored of it. We have got a great set piece and unbelievable threats in the backline and we won’t get bored of using them.”
