From having a relationship with Bath Rugby its showcases that the school are taking positive steps to get their pupils playing sport and getting them physically active, both keys outcomes for the national curriculum in PE.
A high-quality physical education curriculum inspires all pupils to succeed and excel in competitive sport and other physically demanding activities. It should provide opportunities for pupils to become physically confident in a way which supports their health and fitness. Opportunities to compete in sport and other activities build character and help to embed values such as fairness and respect.”
instead of distraction the students schoolwork sport can enhance it through skillsets such as dedication, problem solving, memorization, repetition and learning — skillsets that are directly relevant to class work. Also, the determination and goal-setting skills a sport requires can be transferred to the classroom.
Bath Rugby prides itself on integrating England Rugby’s core values into our sessions. This enables children to develop these skills to use across many other sports. The core values implemented into our rugby sessions are Teamwork, Respect, Enjoyment, Discipline & Sportsmanship.
Having a high-quality PE session during the day allows children to have a mental break from the classroom. Exercising is a natural way to loosen up and let go of stress. Making new friends through being in new teams helps develop the support system of people who can be there for you.
At Bath Rugby we also believe that it is important to not just develop the player but also to develop the person off the pitch. Throughout our sessions we will target life skills such as creativity, decision making and self-organisation to develop the child off the pitch as well as on it.
“The children greatly look forward to Bath Rugby coaches coming in to take sessions. They keep all lessons fun and activity levels high. The children learn key skills through games and are encouraged to make decisions and problem solve for them. The progress the children have made in their understanding of the game after only a few sessions has been remarkable.” Andrew Seabourne, PE delivery Newbridge Primary School
