Sign up for the Bath Men's Walk

2 March 2017

At January's West Country derby between Bath v Gloucester, Duncan Bell took time out of his busy week to support the Bath Men's Walk, an annual event to raise funds for Bath Rugby Foundation and Dorothy House Hospice Care. He was joined by rising Club talent Zach Mercer to launch the event in front of the crowd at The Rec.

On  Saturday 18th March, around 600 men will head down the canal tow path in the fifth annual Bath Men's Walk to raise vital funds for two well-loved, local charities. The eight-mile walk kicks off with registration at Dorothy House Hospice Care in Winsley at 11:00AM and takes around two hours. New for 2017,  hot food and drinks will be available for walkers to buy at the start before they set off on the walk at Noon.

Following a pit stop at The George pub in Bathampton for essential refreshments, the Walk finishes at the Rec, the home of Bath Rugby, where walkers will enjoy a Six Nations screening, a free pie and a pint. Two matches will be screened: France v Wales at 2:45PM and England v Ireland at 5:00PM.

Participants in the Walk, which is once again being sponsored by Thrings solicitors, pay £25 to enter and also pledge to raise a further £50 for the two charities. To sign up please visit and in return you'll get a great day out and a free T-shirt.

Need some fundraising motivation? The individual walker who raises the most money wins a pair of tickets to The Clash an exciting and long-awaited match at Twickenham between Bath and the Leicester Tigers.  Similarly, the top fundraising team will win 10 pairs of tickets for The Clash, so start your fundraising early.

Duncan Bell, Bath Rugby Foundation Ambassador said: “I'm delighted to be supporting the Bath Men's Walk in aid of two great charities who work tirelessly to help the local community. Last year the Bath Men's Walk raised over £45,000 so lets make 2017's total even bigger and all dig deep in our pockets in return for an epic day out.”

Bath Rugby Foundation, Fundraising Manager, Lucy Knight said: “Bath Men’s Walk is always a highlight of the Foundation’s fundraising calendar and we're expecting to see even more men taking part in this year’s event. Funds raised will help Bath Rugby Foundation to change the lives of local young people who need our help. Etry numbers for the Walk are limited so dust off those walking boots and sign up before places sell out.”

John Davies, CEO, Dorothy House Hospice Care said: "It was a great buzz to watch last Friday's match and see Bath and Gloucester draw in the closing seconds.  It was also a privilege to meet Duncan in person.  I'm sure this year's event will be a storming success and the all important funds raised will allow Dorothy House to continue to give patients, their families and carers the specialist palliative and end of life care they need."

Simon Holdsworth, Managing Partner of main event sponsors Thrings and a member of the firm’s walking team, added: “While raising much-needed funds for two fantastic organisations is motivation enough, the prospect of a pie and a pint while watching the culmination of the Six Nations championship at the Rec always offers walkers that added incentive.  Every year the walk generates huge amounts of interest and excitement among staff at Thrings, and the firm is very pleased to be extending its partnership with the event for a fifth successive year.”
