We have got to solve the problem as we go - Hooper

27 September 2021

Director of Rugby Stuart Hooper was disappointed with his side’s performance against Newcastle Falcons.

Talk in pre-season alluded to Bath Rugby playing the scoreboard game and the style game each week, but neither materialised as the Blue, Black and Whites were defeated 20-13 by Newcastle Falcons in Round 2 of the Gallagher Premiership.

“We can talk about performance and we can talk about result, neither were there,” he said.

“In the first half, I'm saying something similar to what I said last week about the penalties. They (Falcons) are a good side and we gave them easy opportunities to have the ball in hand and we gave them an easy option to exit from penalties.

"You don't want it to become a trend, we are two games in and we have seen it in both games so we have to nip it in the bud.

"Again, probably a similar message, the set pieces were a main part of that and secondly were the breakdowns.

"You have to give the right pictures. If you are giving the referee the wrong pictures you have to change them. We had to change people at half-time to change the picture for the referee. That’s one way of doing it, but we have got to solve the problem as we go.”
