HITZ Bath has teamed up with Gracie Barra Bath, a well-established Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Gym in Oldfield Park, to deliver sessions for young people on the HITZ programme. Professor Salvatore Pace, who has been training in various martial arts for over 25 years from Thai Boxing to Western Boxing, MMA and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, takes the learners through an hour long session each week.
The students were joined by Bath Rugby player and HITZ Bath ambassador Anthony Perenise who watched whilst new skills were mastered. The Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu sessions aim to introduce the learners to a sport they may not be able to access and to teach them to focus their attention and aggression in a safe and controlled environment.
During the sessions Salvatore takes the young people through different floor grappling techniques and submission holds. Learners are partnered up whilst practising the moves and submission holds, even having a chance to throw the course tutors around! At the end of each session the learners have the chance to grapple with one of Salvatore's students to demonstrate what they have learned and to experience what it's like rolling with an expert.
HITZ Officer Stephen Barber said, "I'm delighted that Salvatore is working with our young people and letting us use his facilities. The sessions are a great way for some of the learners to focus their aggressions in a positive way and it's also a great opportunity for them to try something new"
Salvatore Pace owner of Gracie Barra Bath said, "Training Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu doesn't just teach you how to fight but it will teach you how to live a clean and healthy lifestyle. That's why our slogan is Jiu-Jitsu for everyone!"
