A massive congratulations to Bath Rugby Forwards Coach Neal Hatley and his team who recently completed the gruelling 715km Yukon River Quest, raising over £170,000 for Help for Heroes in the process.
A hugely demanding and draining event, the Race to the Midnight Sun pushed Hats and his team to the absolute limit, but they excelled, finishing in 53 hours, 2 minutes and 12 seconds – 1 hour and 20 minutes faster than last year. They came in 3rd in class, and 25th overall, which is a brilliant achievement, especially given the conditions through which they were paddling.
Speaking on his return, Hats said: "This was an incredibly hard challenge, and we all have a great sense of accomplishment now it has sunk in. We had some pretty tough days – the first leg was a non-stop 24 hour effort, followed by 18 hours for the second and then 10 for the final push! We also had to contend with a five hour thunder storm at one point!
"I'd like to say a big, big thank you to everyone who sponsored me – the most important thing was that we managed to raise over £170,000 for Help for Heroes – nearly double the amount we raised last year, and we couldn't have done that without all the generous support we received."
