Bath Rugby Statement on Royal Courts of Justice Hearing

19 May 2015

Bath Recreation Ground Trust's appeal hearing took place at the Royal Courts of Justice in London yesterday. The appeal, which was heard by the Tax and Chancery Chamber (Upper Tribunal), seeks to amend and clarify some of the alterations made to the Charity Commission scheme in a previous judgement made by the Charity Tribunal (Lower), in March 2014. These alterations limited the powers of Bath Recreation Ground Trust, including its ability to lease extra land to the Club beyond what is currently used for the East Stand.

Bath Rugby Managing Director, Tarquin McDonald, said, "Bath Rugby very much looks forward to hearing the outcome of yesterday's appeal hearing, which we hope will provide the opportunity for progress on the site. We remain committed to securing Bath Rugby's future at the Rec, not only as a permanent home for the Club, but also as a real asset to the City. In this aim we have always been overwhelmingly supported by the local business community and the vast majority of people in and around Bath. Following the outcome of the decision, we look forward to working with Bath Recreation Ground Trust, together with other stakeholders including B&NES and residents of Bath, on a shared vision for the long-term future of the Rec."
