Macmillan Cancer Care Support, Off the Record, the Carers’ Centre in Bath and the Bath Rugby Foundation have all been chosen as this season’s charities at Bath Rugby. At every home game the buckets will be rattling in support of these worthwhile charities, and at the end of the season all donations will be distributed equally amongst the four.
Last season, The Children’s Hospice South West, Dorothy House, the RUH Space for Cancer Care and the Bath Rugby Foundation were each presented with a cheque for £3442.31 – this was all down to the generosity of the supporters at the matchday collections.
Macmillan’s ambition is to reach and improve the lives of everyone living with cancer and to inspire millions of others to do the same. Macmillan are the nurses and therapists who help people through treatment and are experts on the end of the phone with advisers telling them which benefits they are entitled to. They rely on voluntary donations for 97% of their income and so are touched by the Club’s support.
The Carers’ Centre in Bath provides a range of advice and support to all those caring for a seriously ill or disabled family member. The money they raise enables family breaks, days out, counselling and transport - amongst other things - and welcomes the help of the Club. This summer the Foundation have been working with the Carers’ Centre at Southside Youth Hub in the Twerton area. Southside have a fantastic set up which includes a small hall, outdoor courts and gym. The team have been part of the ‘Family Fitness’ programme which has been organised to provide parent carers with an opportunity to have some fun time out with their families.
Off the Record, based in Manvers Street in Bath, offers free independent and confidential emotional support to children and young people in the area. They have been facing massive cuts in their funding having to close their drop-in service. They are thrilled that they have been chosen as one of Bath Rugby’s chosen charities.
The fourth charity is Bath’s very own Foundation who work extremely hard enhancing people’s lives through sport, in particular those who are disadvantaged. The charity covers three core strands: Sport, Education and Inclusion. All the strands use sport to enthuse and motivate people, helping them to learn and develop a wide variety of life skills.
So, when you are at a Bath Rugby game and you walk past someone shaking a bucket, please think about the above charities. Every penny you throw into those buckets will go towards giving these wonderful organisations just a little more support – it is good to give a little back.
