Bath Rugby and Novia club together to raise money for Bath Rugby Foundation

16 March 2012

In association with main partner Novia, Bath Rugby recently held the Bath Rugby Charity Open, raising over £5000 for the Bath Rugby Foundation.

A total of 19 teams took part in the day, with Getronics, who included former Bath Rugby players Matt Perry and Phil De Glanville in their ranks, being crowned the eventual winners. Tournament sponsors Novia came in second, with Brewin Dolphin third.

Novia’s George Goward won the ‘Closest to the Pin’ award, but it was Bath Rugby’s Nick Abendanon who was the star of the day taking home both the  Herman Miller longest drive award and the best individual score of the day.

Nick said: “It’s great that we could raise such a significant amount of money for the Foundation with this event. They do work incredibly hard to provide support for the local community, and all of us involved know how much of a difference this amount of money can make to them and the work they do.”

The event, held at the 2010 Ryder Cup Course at Celtic Manor, kicked off on the Tuesday, as golfers and their guests arrived for a pre-tournament dinner, hosted by Club President David Trick.

TV and Radio Presenter Jonny Gould hosted a Q & A session with former England Captains Phil De Glanville and Lewis Moody before running the very successful auction. An evening meal for 10 cooked by none other than Lewis Moody, David Flatman and Stuart Hooper proved one of the most appealing lots of the night, eventually going for £1300.

Richard Denning, Chief Operating Officer at Novia said: “The Bath Rugby Foundation is a very worthy cause, so we were happy to lend our support to what was a great event. It’s a sign of the growing partnership between ourselves and Bath Rugby, and we’re already looking forward to next year’s event.”

Matt Powell, Bath Rugby’s Business Development Director, added: “We’d like to thank all the golfers who took part in this event, and for their help in raising such a fantastic sum for the Foundation. Thanks must also go to Celtic Manor, Herman Miller, Jonny Gould, and Novia, who were all very generous in their support, and we look forward to seeing everyone next year.”
