For any young rugby player, game time is one of the most important parts of their development – they are professional players, not professional trainers – and that is why Bath Rugby often agree loan deals for our Academy stars, in order to help them develop even more quickly, and why we have recently agreed a few more.
Versatile young front row Tom Dunn is now dual registered with GKIPA Championship side London Scottish, and went straight into the Exiles’ squad for their New Year’s Day clash with Bedford Blues. He has since started both their British and Irish Cup games against Edinburgh Accies and London Welsh.
Back row Will Skuse and wing Olly Woodburn are now dual registered with Nottingham, under the guidance of former Bath player and coach Martin Haag. Both have impressed when representing the East Midlands side, with Woodburn scoring a try on debut against Ealing Trailfinders at the beginning of January.
Academy Director Danny Grewcock said: “We’re receiving really good reports about how the lads are getting on at their various loan Clubs, and it’s encouraging for us that they’ve already pushed their way into the starting line-ups. We’ve got some very talented young players here at Bath, and one of the best ways for them to learn is by playing. The Championship is a very competitive league, and they’ll really benefit from their time playing in it.”
