It was a great evening last night for all the potential volunteers of the Bath Rugby Foundation!
Once registered (there were over 20 people aged between 15 and 24), the new recruits enjoyed watching some of the Foundation team coaching one of the Up and Unders sessions at Bath Sports Centre. This is a programme for very young children aged between 2 and 7 years who learn a variety of skills through rugby based games. It was very lively and very noisy; a great introduction to the sort of thing they may be asked to do as a volunteer.
After a talk from Caryl Thomas about the work of the Foundation they were introduced to various leadership challenges. The volunteers were placed into pairs and into two groups. One group had curling stones whilst the other was given balls. One of each pair was asked to close their eyes whilst the other guided their partner to roll their stone/ball to a target. This created lots of laughter and showed up a variety of skills such as listening, working as a team and following instructions.
This was followed by games of Cat and Mouse and Face the Outer Circle which resulted in chasing each other and lots of laughter.
All the volunteers will be invited back for another session after which they will be told how they may be able to help the Foundation.
In turn, after working with the Foundation for some time there may be opportunities to take part in either the Bursary or Apprenticeship scheme run by the Club.
