Nathan Catt and Ben Skirving were invited to the opening of the new vocational learning centre at The Link Special School and Specialist Behaviour Service which has been funded by Bath & North East Somerset Council.
They were shown around the new centre and were really impressed to see the ‘real life’ learning stations for all the pupils. At the heart of the new extension is a training kitchen, preparation area and a server with a Bain Marie commercial kitchen unit, to allow the students to create and serve dishes, practicing skills they can apply to future ventures into the hospitality industry. The children had cooked all the cakes and biscuits at the event, even working hard at home last night to get them baked in time.
There were also areas for construction work and for motor mechanics.
Executive Head, Dawn Harris stated, “It’s a great provision for the students and we are thrilled that so many of them are excited by the new areas. The qualifications they will earn should provide better opportunities for them when they leave for either the world of work or further or higher education.
Nathan Catt said: “Ben and I were really impressed with the centre and with the enthusiasm the children had as they showed their guests around their special school."
