Premiership Rugby and MBNA’s ground breaking Tackling Numbers programme has been named the Best Corporate Social Responsibility at a national awards ceremony which was held in London last week.
Bath Rugby along with the other premier rugby clubs in the country run the Tackling Numbers five week numeracy programme. It teaches children aged 8 - 9 the importance of number skills in everyday life by delivering both classroom sessions and practical number-based rugby games. This innovative and engaging programme makes learning about numbers fun, exciting and rewarding. It also inspires children to both improve their numeracy skills and their physical health.
Steve Middleton, who leads the programme at Bath Rugby said: “All schools taking part have really enjoyed the programme. It’s been well received by teachers for its content and it has inspired many children to enjoy and participate more in their numeracy lessons.”
In the 2010-11 academic year the programme reached 8,400 children in 280 schools within 14 regions across England. The schools also received a lasting legacy of equipment5 including a Teacher Resource pack containing all the programme content, access to an online information resource and tag rugby equipment so that the school can continue to play.
