St Barnabas Visit the Rec for Inspiration

St Barnabas in Devizes are an Associate School of the Bath Rugby Foundation, which means they are working with the Foundation to inspire young children in a number of their school subjects.  Last term they did Tackling Numbers, which was delivered by Vicky Heslop, Foundation Education Manager, and Jimmy Deane, Foundation Manager.  This involved an hour of maths, which was rugby themed in the classroom, and then they enjoyed an hour of tag rugby outside, which also had maths thrown in!

The second project of this association began last Tuesday when two classes totalling 60 children, visited the Recreation Ground for four hours.  Each group spent two hours doing a tour of the ground;  this included viewing the changing rooms, looking at trophies in the clubhouse and visiting the IPL stand. They peered into the boxes and gazed at the pitch from the balcony and listened to some of Bath’s stories and history recounted by Jimmy Deane.

The group also had an interview with Bath Rugby’s Scott Hobson.  Vicky said: “He was fantastic, he was a brilliant speaker and they asked him all sorts of questions about playing rugby and what it is like to be a professional player.  The idea is that they will be particularly inspired to write some really interesting pieces of writing about Bath Rugby when they get back to school which we hope will end up on our website or in our match day programme.”

Once this project is finished, St Barnabas will be working with The Foundation on some other projects such as dance and tag rugby coaching.
