Bath Rugby’s Community Coach, Caryl Thomas was at Shoscombe Primary School last week delivering Premiership Rugby’s Tackling Numbers programme. The object of the sessions has been to raise interest in learning maths by relating the subject to sport.
Last week’s session began by collecting data from photos of individual Bath Rugby players which gave heights, weights and positions of play. They compared players heights and completed bar charts and pictograms by inputting this information. As it was their last of five sessions Scott Hobson, past player and now working at Bath Rugby in the Media and Marketing Department, was happy to slip back into his old role by visiting Shoscombe to talk to them and join in with what there were doing.
When Scott was asked if the children were having fun he said: “Yes, they thoroughly enjoyed the Tackling Numbers session and they had great enthusiasm for rugby and were willing to learn. They asked me loads of questions about the career of a rugby players. This association with rugby definitely gives them an interest in doing their bar charts and so yes, it was all good.”
Caryl will start her new cluster next week when she will be visiting Bellfield, Winsley and Welton.
