An Olympic treat for St Johns Primary

Bath Rugby Community coaches Steve Middleton and John Harrison paid a visit to St Johns RC Primary School recently, and took a long a rather special treat – an official Olympic Torch.

The children at the school had been taking part in an Olympic themed week, learning all about the history of the event, and the different sports and countries involved.

They held their own version of the closing ceremony, which is where Steve and John came in with the Torch. Children received medals at the ceremony for their outstanding work throughout the week.

Speaking after the visit, Steve said: "It was great to be able to go and visit the school with the Torch – the look on the children's faces when we walked in with it was fantastic. They'd been working hard on their projects throughout the week, so it was a nice to be able to take something in to show them directly connected to the Olympics that they wouldn't normally have seen."

The community team have managed to get their hands on the replica torch after John's son, Richard Harrison, ran the Newbridge leg when the Torch Relay passed through Bath.
