Novia Financial, supported by Bath Rugby, recently held their third annual charity cricket match, and raised a tremendous £17,000 for the Bath Rugby Foundation.
The Novia Mallards took on the NISL Hawks in a tense game with the Hawks just coming out on top snatching the Novia Charity Challenge Trophy for the first time in the cup's history by reaching 108 runs with nine balls to spare.
Olympic Gold medallist Amy Williams was batting for the Hawks and ex-Bath Rugby player Lee Mears and Silver modern pentathlon medallist Heather Fell were playing for the Mallards. It was a closely fought and competitive encounter. However the Hawks just scraped through to seize the trophy.
Taking place at the Bath Cricket ground in the heart of the city, spectators were treated to a BBQ, a bouncy castle for the younger viewers, as well as the option to take part in the Novia/Bath Rugby speed cage challenge - where participants could measure their ball accuracy as well as speed when targeting rugby balls - Kevin Ashton was the speed cage winner with 148 and Jody Roblin took the women's crown with an impressive score of 127.
Former Bath Rugby and England prop David Flatman hosted the charity raffle and auction for the second year running. Prizes included an Ashes Cricket Montage signed by Michael Vaughan, a school coaching session with Danny Grewcock, a personal training session with Gavin Henson and Nick Abendanon, a day's sailing on the Solent, and a week's stay for 10 in a Swiss chalet.
The money raised will go to support the Bath Rugby Foundation which provides support to impoverished children in the local area through widening access to sport. The charity provides opportunities for young people to enjoy and develop at all levels as well as using sport as a discipline to motivate and inspire young people.
Richard Denning, Chief Operating Officer at Novia said: "We are really thrilled with the huge level of participation and involvement from Novia staff, from Bath Rugby as well as the local community, many of whom who have donated very generously both directly to the charity and in the form of fantastic auction and raffle prizes. Novia are strong supporters of the Bath Rugby Foundation and we have raised well over £60,000 in the three years we have been supporting them. The cricket was a fantastic day for all those taking part and spectating. A huge thank you to everyone who helped to make it such a success"
Foundation Manager Jimmy Deane said: "Novia have been staunch supporters of the Foundation over the past number of years and we were delighted to help support them in the much anticipated annual Novia 20/20 Charity Challenge Trophy - to raise over £17,000 is a fantastic result for the charity, and we're really grateful to everyone who came down and took part in some way."
