Bath Rugby re-launches partnerships with local clubs

Bath Rugby has stepped up its initiative to help develop rugby at grassroots level.

Combination Clubs, officially launched last Friday at the Recreation Ground, will see at least two players linked to each of the clubs within the local area, providing coaching sessions, appearances and advice throughout the 2013/14 season.

During the launch, local club representatives were invited to meet their allocated Combination Clubs players, before attending a presentation on the initiative. Key Bath Rugby speakers included Chief Executive Nick Blofeld, Club captain Stuart Hooper and physiotherapist Jane West, who gave a presentation about concussion – the dangers of which she is seeking to highlight to rugby clubs in the surrounding area.

The Club says it not only wants to forge stronger ties with rugby teams in the surrounding area, but also to show young players how to improve themselves through the sport.

Blofeld, who spoke of an increased commitment from Bath Rugby to local clubs, said: "Not only will the Combination Clubs initiative deepen the players' appreciation of the surrounding rugby clubs that feed into our organisation, but it will also hopefully serve to inspire the next generation of Bath Rugby players."

Hooper drew on his own experiences of grassroots rugby, both as a player and now as a parent of children who play locally in the Bath area: "I have such good memories of playing for my local clubs. With my children now playing junior rugby at our local side on a Sunday, I get to relive those great times and, as part of the Combination Clubs, pass on some of my own experiences."

The clubs currently involved in the initiative are: Avonvale RFC, Avon RFC, Bath RFC, Bath Old Edwardians RFC, Bath Saracens RFC, Bradford on Avon RFC, Calne RFC, Chippenham RFC, Combe Down RFC, Corsham RFC, Old Culverhaysians RFC, Devizes RFC, Frome RFC, Keynsham RFC, Melksham RFC, Midsomer Norton RFC, Bath Old Edwardians RFC, Old Sulians' RFC, Oldfield Old Boys RFC, Stothert and Pitt RFC, Trowbridge RFC, Westbury RFC, Walcot RFC.
