A work placement is an opportunity for students in Year 10 or 11 to spend a week outside the classroom, learning about how education and sport can motivate and inspire young people to learn in the unique setting of Bath Rugby club.
Case study
Jack Cheshire - Year 10 - Culverhay School
I have just finished my work experience at the Bath REC and learnt about the qualities and skills needed to become an employee here and I think the most important are communication, self-confidence and trust.
During my work experience, I have learnt a lot from the moment I stepped foot into the centre which opened in 2005 and since then has helped over 3,000 children with Maths, ICT and English, which just sounds a bit plain and boring when I say it like that, but let me tell you it certainly isn't, there's a massive variety of sporting activities also involved and all the kids that have been here over the past week seem to have enjoyed it immensely and have always got smiles on their faces.
The centre has really helped me with things like teamwork, working in a new environment, working with new people (i.e school kids) but my greatest asset is probably how confident I now am and I know I will be confident in future job's. On the first day I was a bag of nerves and thought I was definitely going to do something wrong, or go to the wrong building which I managed to do both of, but since the first day I feel that on a personal level my communication and confidence skills have improved by a vast amount, although I now also understand which skills I need to improve like organization and leadership being the main two.
I have also had a great deal of fun doing this and it's been a very pleasurable experience.
It's been absolutely fantastic.
