The Bath Rugby mascot is a fabulous chance for you to get an insight into being a rugby player on a match day! You will be met before the game by the Team Manager and you will be given a sneaky peek of the changing rooms ahead of the game! You will then meet the team themselves, take the hand of the captain and lead the players out onto the pitch in front of a crowded Rec! Each mascot will have their photo taken with the captain by our official photographer and will then make their way to their seats for the game - this really is a fabulous opportunity for any budding young rugby player and is understandably one of the most popular features of the fan club.
The Guinness Premiership mascots are sponsored by Total Laminate Systems Ltd.
Our first mascot for the 2009/10 season was lucky William Haly.
William is eleven years old and has been following Bath Rugby for the last 5 years and is a season ticket holder alongside his Dad and Grandad. He attends Balcarras School, Cheltenham and plays rugby for Cirencester. His favourite players are Jonny Fa'amatuainu, Michael Claassens and Lee Mears (William used to play for Torquay, Lee's first Club). William wishes the whole squad good luck for today's match and for the rest of the season.
This week's lucky mascots were:
6 year-old Jack Ewart
Jack lives with his mum and dad in Neston, Corsham, Wiltshire and is a keen Bath rugby supporter, this is his second session as a member. His favourite player is Matt Bahanan. He goes to Heywood Preparatory School in Corsham and has recently joined Corsham Rugby Club. It will be his 6th birthday on match day and he his really excited.
and
9 year-old Nathan Schofield
Nathan is new to rugby and has obviously chosen to support Bath as his chosen team - good choice! He is currently going through the joining process at a local club to him in Winchester. His favourite player is Tom Cheeseman.
Our mascot for this match was Lewis Potter.
Lewis was 14 in December and lives in Dartford, Kent, and attends Wilmington Grammar School. He plays for the school and his local rugby team, Dartfordians, and is a powerful prop. He chose to support Bath as his auntie and uncle, who is a season ticket holder, live nearby and took him to his first ever Guinness Premiership game where he became a follower of Bath. Lewis enjoys going to Twickenham to watch England and his favourite player at Bath is Lee Mears. Outside of rugby Lewis can be found playing his play station.
Special welcome this week went to our lucky mascot, Charlie Harris.
Charlie is aged 9 and is a keen Bath supporter, with his own season ticket sitting next to his Gran and Gramps. His favourite players are Butch James and Olly Barkley and he can't wait to see them back in action soon. Charlie has been playing rugby for Keynsham since he was 6, and he now plays scrum half, following in the footsteps of his older brother George. Charlie was voted Players Player at the end of last season. Charlie has been to two Bath Community training camps and really enjoys the coaching and getting to meet his heroes in person. He goes to Chandag Junior school in Keynsham and his ambition is to play professional rugby for Bath, so his Mum and Dad can sit in a box to watch him.
This week's lucky mascots were:
5 year old Freddy Purcell.
Freddy is 6 in March and has supported Bath Rugby since moving to the city 4 years ago. His favourite player in the backs in Matt Banahan and in the forwards Jonny Faamatuainu. Apart from rugby, Freddy likes playing cricket and football. He also loves fast cars and aeroplanes.
and
14 year old Stephen Trenchard.
Stephen has played rugby for Dorchester RFC since the age of 6. He also plays for his school, which is Lytchett Minster. For the last few seasons he has played at Hooker, and consequently his favourite Bath player is Lee Mears.
This week's very lucky mascot was Butch's Bunch Member, Hermione Titcombe. Hermione has written her introduction herself!
My name is Hermione Titcombe, I am seven and live near Corsham. I play rugby for Corsham Rugby Club in the Under 8's. The first match I saw at Bath was when we saw Bath beat Saracen's and since then I loved rugby.
I would like to add that she is absolutely mad about rugby, and is a season ticket holder along with her 2 sisters, mum and dad, her favourite players are Matt Banahan and Duncan Bell. She goes to Stonar Prep School.
After a long gap between Guinness Premierhip matches the next lucky mascot was William Stoyle.
William is a keen Bath Rugby supporter and has been a Season Ticket Holder for 6 years. William enjoys playing rugby as well as watching it and plays inside centre at school (All Halllows) and for his team, Old Reds. His favourite players are Matt Banahan and Butch James. A sporting all-rounder William also loves cricket and plays for Somerset County U12's and for Timsbury CC.
This week's mascot was James Gamble. James thought he would be lucky and he certainly was!
"Hi my name is James and I am eleven years old. I really enjoy all sports but particularly rugby and have enjoyed a very successful season as scrum-half and captain of my Under 11 team at Taunton School. The team has played 11 different schools in the area and only lost once this season. I joined Butch's Bunch last year when my family moved to Bristol and I have been a very enthusiastic supporter of Bath since then. Lots of my friends from Taunton School also support Bath and know that they will be in the crowd today, encouraging Bath to another win at The Rec. I hope that I am a lucky mascot."
The mascot position for the much awaited re-arranged fixture was offered as a competition prize to Butch's Bunch members. The lucky winner was Abigail Bewley.
"My name is Abbie Bewley. I'm 10 years old and I live in Kingswood. I attend St Stephens Junior School where I'm in year 5. My hobby is Acrobatic Gymnastics. My favourite players are Jonny Faamutuainu, Shontayne Hape and Matt Banahan. I have been a member of the fan club for three years and enjoyed the Christmas Ten Pin Bowling Party in 2008 when I out scored my team captain Duncan Bell. The best game I have been to so far was the European Challenge Cup final where we won. The atmosphere was brilliant. I can't wait to go to more finals with Bath over the next few seasons."
Our final mascot of the season is Harry Webster.
"My name is Harry Webster and l am 11yrs old. I live close to Wadebridge in Cornwall. I am a huge Bath rugby supporter and a season ticket holder with my Dad in the IPL stand. I play rugby for the Wadebridge Camels a former club of Olly Barkley. I play centre or wing and my favourite players for Bath are Jonny Faamatuainu and Butch James my dream one day is to play for Bath Rugby". Harry Webster(11).
Finally we would just like to wish Abigail Light well - she has recently broken her leg and had to give up her chance to be the mascot. However, we are looking forward to welcoming her as mascot to the first home game of the 2010/11 season! We wish you a speedy recovery Abigail.
