In summary though there were two points that dominated responses.
First that the concept is a good one - most of you found it useful to hear the referees observations during matches and felt that it added to enjoyment of the game.
However the second point was that reliability of the service was poor. We were aware of issues already (which prompted the request for feedback) as we have exchanged perhaps 10% of receivers sold last year. Your responses just reinforced this point unfortunately. Many reported faulty receivers and others commented that even when the receiver worked the ability to hear the ref's comments was variable - perhaps due to the way the ref was "wired up" with the microphone, perhaps due to the radio transmission.
In total, more than half the respondents reported problems - and therefore in the circumstances and with regret we felt we couldn't promote the service again this season with the same receivers. Accordingly the receivers have not been offered as part of the season ticket renewal package.
We have been in touch with the Ref!Link team and they are considering what options there are to produce an improved system. If this can be done in time for the start of the season then we will offer the service again - this will be via the website and our weekly ezine. Therefore - if you want to receive news on this please ensure you are subscribed to our ezine (most Season Ticket Holders already are). You can do this via the section bottom right on the home page of www.bathrugby.com .
