| Rosslyn Park kicked off and Bath U19’s immediately attacked from their own 22-metre area. The ball went through several hands and ended just short of the try-line, when Adam Clayton was pulled down with a last-ditch cover tackle.
For the next 25 minutes Bath stayed camped in the Park half and only outstanding team defence by Rosslyn Park prevented any scores during this period. Eventually Park broke away through a powerful run by their No 8 and this phase of play was halted 10 metres from the Bath line by a very good cover tackle by full back Charlie Perry.
Park pressurised the Bath line for the next 10 minutes and after a succession of scrums Bath managed to turn the ball over. Fly-half Freddie Burns made a break and this was continued by openside flanker Dan Cervino, who did well to offload out of a tackle to right wing Tom Boreham. He scored under the posts and Burns converted to make the score 7-0 at half-time.
During the second half both teams used a number of substitutes but the match flowed a lot more than in the first half, as both teams showed good handling skills in attack and strong commitment in defence. In the 45th minute right wing Louis Messer came into the line and made a break which was well finished by full-back Perry wide out.
After 55 minutes scrum-half Steven Depledge was put away up the short side by No 8 Ian Thomas and ran in from 40 metres, and though he had missed his second conversion attempt, this time Burns was successful.
A counter-attack from deep inside Bath territory led by lock Matt Bye was carried on by fellow lock Jake Dixon, who side-stepped his way to the try-line from 30 metres out. Burns converted from the touchline, to make it 26-0.
Rosslyn Park came back strongly in the last five minutes of the match and after several drives for the line scored a try through their impressive No 8.
Both teams contributed to a very fast and entertaining game and look forward to the return fixture in London on January 14th next year.
