Andy Robinson

Born Taunton 3rd April 1964.      Height 5'9"    Weight 14st     Flanker.
Rugby pedigree:- Richard Huish School, Loughborough University (Captain in final year), U.A.U., English Students, Taunton, Bath, South West Division (Captain), Barbarians, British Lions.

His late father, Ray captained Somerset and Royal Navy and coached Somerset.
Brother Sean played for Saracens and Peter for Taunton.

He made his England debut against Australia on 12 June 1988, and gained eight caps before playing his last England  match 18 November 1995 against South Africa.
British Lion 1989. 6 games - 2 tries.   Played 11 times for Barbarians, scoring 2 tries.

European Player of the Year 1989.  
Elsewhere described as: “Combative and indestructible.”

1/9/1984 v Plymouth Albion, Away, Won 26-10. Team:- C Martin, D Trick, J Palmer, A Rees, B Trevaskis, J Horton, R Hill, G Chilcott, G Bess, J Morrison, R F Hakin, R Spurrell, J Hall, P Simpson. “Andy Robinson replaced the injured Spurrell, giving an early indication of Bath’s strength in depth in the back row department.”

 Final game 2/4/1997 v Sale away. Lost 5-11

Pre-professional 229 games 32 tries 161 points. Professional 20 games 5 tries 25 points.

Initially a teacher at Writhlington School, Andy then taught Maths and P.E. at King Edward's School, Bath and later Colston's Collegiate School, Bristol. In partnership with Alan Martinovic he masterminded Colston’s Daily Mail Cup wins in 1995 and 1996 and generated a steady flow of Academy players who progressed into senior rugby.        
He jointly founded Rugby Summer School with John Hall and still finds time for Bath Minis and Juniors on Sunday mornings.
Robinson coached Bath for a while, then stepped up as forwards coach for England and deputy to Clive Woodward. He was appointed Chief England coach in 2004.
